Stephanie Kennedy, a versatile artist, educator, and conductor, is currently based in Glasgow. Renowned as the Flugelhorn soloist for the Scottish Champion band of 2024, ‘the cooperation band’, she has achieved the distinction of winning the Best Flugal Prize at the Scottish Championships for two consecutive years. She is a performing artist for Geneva Instruments who plays exclusively on a Geneva Cardinal as well as being a performing artist for Mercer & Barker.
Stephanie’s education journey commenced with trumpet studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, followed by advanced studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, under mentorship of Prof. Kristian Steenstrup, culminating in a Master’s degree in Music & Orchestral Performance.
Returning to Glasgow, Stephanie has flourished in her multifaceted career, engaging in performances, conducting and teaching endeavours throughout Scotland. She collaborates regularly with renowned ensembles such as BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, while also serving as a trumpet tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Juniors Department.
Hailing from Campbeltown, Stephanie’s musical journey began with the Campbeltown Brass Band, a notable ensemble in a remote locale, where she ascended to the position of principal cornet.
Transitioning to the Kirkintiloch Brass Band, she excelled on repiano before assuming the role of principal cornet, guiding the band to numerous victories in prestigious competitions like the Scottish Championships, the British Open, and the National Championships of Great Britain.
Stephanie’s early involvement with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) from the age of 10, marked by impactful collaborations under the direction of Richard Evans, included a memorable tour of Japan in 2008. Her outstanding contributions led to being the inaugural recipient of the esteemed Philip McCann Cornet Award upon assuming the principal cornet position.
Stephanie’s work within the spectrum of musical disciplines led her to venture into the world of conducting, and in 2018 took up the baton with her hometown band, Campbeltown Brass. This culminated in winning the Second Section National Championships of Great Britain in 2022, following a victory in the qualifying area earlier that year.
