Leigh began playing the trumpet in 2005 at the age of 10 and attended the Junior Conservatoire at RCS in 2011 while still in school. During this time, he served as principal trumpet of the North Lanarkshire Schools Wind Band. In 2013, Leigh had his first experience playing the cornet with the University of Glasgow Brass Band. His introduction to contesting came in late 2014 when he joined Bathgate Band, where he played solo cornet and flugelhorn. Leigh first joined “The Co” in early 2017 but relocated to London for work in 2018, where he played solo cornet with the Epsom & Ewell Band. Upon returning to Scotland, Leigh played solo cornet with Newmains Band and later with Unison Kinneil, remaining with the latter until 2024. Leigh returned to “The Co” in 2024, assisting at the British Open and Brass in Concert and has now joined the band following a short guesting stint with Bathgate Band. In addition to his brass band committments, Leigh also plays trumpet in the Michael Brawley Big Band and enjoys making music in a variety of settings
