The position of Solo Euphonium is supported by David Hynd & W&R Fraser
Chris started playing the euphonium at the age of nine and first joined the band in 2015 as first baritone, moving to solo euphonium in 2016. He played in the successful Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band under the tutelage of Mike Robertson. He also held the principal euphonium seat in the NYBBS for three years.
As a soloist, he has performed in numerous competitions and concerts, including the Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Contest and the Glamis Castle Musicale, and has given a number of solo recitals across Scotland. In addition, he has had the privilege of performing with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra as a freelance musician.
After beginning his degree in French and English at the University of St Andrews, he was awarded a brass scholarship, which allowed him to perform on several occasions at university events. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time and experiences with the band and looks forward to many future endeavours.
As a player, while technical playing is indispensable, he believes that musicality and emotion are at the very core of performance. He now works as a freelance musician and brass instructor.
