Help build the future of The Cooperation Band

The Cooperation Band is launching its Friends and Patrons programme, inviting supporters to help secure the organisation’s future and develop its work with musicians of all ages.

For more than 100 years, the band has been part of Scotland’s musical life. That history matters to us, but so does what comes next. We want to build on the achievements of the senior band while creating more opportunities for people to learn, perform and enjoy music together.

Supporting more than the performance

When audiences see the band on stage, they see the result of many hours of rehearsals, preparation and work behind the scenes. Our players, tutors and volunteers give a considerable amount of their time, but keeping the organisation running also brings significant costs.

Rehearsal space, instruments, music, transport and equipment hire are all essential. Meeting these costs while investing in the future is an ongoing challenge, and reliable support makes a real difference to what we can achieve.

Our Friends and Patrons programme gives people who enjoy our music and believe in our work a way to become more closely involved and help us plan ahead.

Creating opportunities through music

Alongside the senior band’s concerts, competitions and work representing Scotland, we are continuing to develop our Youth Band and Percussion Ensemble.

These groups give young musicians the chance to learn from experienced players, meet others who share their interests and build confidence through making music together. Our Youth Band is free to attend, and we are committed to keeping these opportunities accessible.

We also want to help people stay involved in music throughout their lives, with plans to establish a veterans’ band in the future.

Supporting The Cooperation Band means helping this wider work grow, as well as supporting the performances audiences enjoy.

What your support will help us achieve

Through the Friends and Patrons programme, we are building a reserve fund to give the organisation greater financial stability and support our longer-term plans. Our priorities include:

  • Securing a permanent home: a dedicated base for rehearsals, teaching, equipment storage and our wider activities.
  • Investing in instruments: replacing and upgrading equipment to support our players and those joining us in the future.
  • Developing our Youth Band and Percussion Ensemble: continuing to provide opportunities for young musicians to learn and perform.
  • Helping with essential costs: including transport, rehearsal space and equipment hire.
  • Keeping music accessible: making participation and performances affordable for players and audiences.

The fund will be overseen by our trustees and executive team. We will keep supporters updated on progress and how their contributions are being used.

Become part of our future

If you have enjoyed a Cooperation Band concert, followed our progress over the years or believe in the value of making music together, we would be very grateful for your support.

Becoming a Friend or Patron will help us plan with greater confidence, support the musicians involved today and create opportunities for those who follow.

We have plenty we want to achieve, and your support can help us get there.

Find out more and become a Friend or Patron

If you are unable to join just now, sharing the programme with friends, family or others who may be interested is another valuable way to help.

Thank you for supporting The Cooperation Band and the work we do.
