The Co-operation Band has returned home from the World Music Contest 2026 in Kerkrade, The Netherlands, following a memorable and successful week representing Scotland on the international stage.
Competing in the Concert Division against nine of the world’s leading brass bands, the band delivered two performances of which everyone can be immensely proud. An 8th-place finish in the set test piece was followed by an outstanding 5th place in the own-choice programme, resulting in an 8th-place overall finish after the aggregate scores were combined.
While the final result reflects the exceptionally high standard of competition, the performances showcased the band’s musical ambition, commitment and continued progression. To perform alongside some of the finest ensembles from across the globe was both a privilege and an inspiration, and the atmosphere throughout the weekend was one of friendship, respect and world-class music-making.
The band would like to congratulate Brass Band 13 Etoiles on being crowned World Music Contest 2026 Champions after two exceptional performances.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to everyone who supported the band throughout the competition. Whether following from home, sending messages of encouragement, or cheering us on in the auditorium, your support was greatly appreciated by every member of the band.
Special recognition must also go to our featured soloist, Chris Flynn, whose outstanding performance in the own-choice programme once again demonstrated his exceptional musicianship and was warmly received by the audience.
The band would also like to place on record its sincere thanks to Principal Conductor Katrina Marzella Wheeler. Her tireless dedication, meticulous preparation and unwavering belief in the band have been instrumental in our journey to Kerkrade and continue to drive the band’s musical development.
With the World Music Contest now complete, the band will enjoy a well-earned summer break before turning its attention to an exciting second half of the year, with a number of performances and contests already on the horizon.
Representing Scotland at one of the world’s premier music competitions has been a tremendous honour, and everyone at the Co-operation Band returns home with immense pride, invaluable experience and wonderful memories of WMC Kerkrade 2026.
