At last night’s concert with The Wallace Collection at Stockbridge Church, the Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) presented one of its highest honours — RPS Honorary Membership — to legendary trumpeter and music education champion John Wallace.
The award was presented in person by James Murphy, CEO of the Royal Philharmonic Society.
John Wallace is one of the great trumpeters of our time, having played starring roles with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, and London Sinfonietta. As a soloist, he has transformed the trumpet repertoire, and for nearly 40 years, his group The Wallace Collection has not only shone on stage but also worked tirelessly in communities, using music to inspire and connect.
A tireless advocate for music education, John was the first Scot appointed Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and he continues to shape future generations through the Music Education Partnership Group, helping young people across Scotland discover their own musical journeys.
Since 1826, RPS Honorary Membership has recognised individuals who dedicate their lives to music and to uplifting others through it.
