Grant Henderson

Euphonium

Born and brought up on The Wirral in a family with strong Scottish roots, Grant began playing the baritone aged seven, moving to the euphonium at the age of eleven. He progressed through the Wirral Schools Music Service eventually playing with the senior Wirral Schools Brass and Concert Bands, and Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass Band, with whom he appeared in a theatrical run of Brassed Off in 2015. Moving to Glasgow as a student in 2016, he joined Strathclyde University Concert Band, and served as Band President between 2020 and 2022. Grant also enjoys playing with the Dunbartonshire Concert Band and Dunbartonshire Wind Ensemble. He is delighted to be returning to brass banding with the Co. Outside of music, Grant holds a BSc with First Class Honours and a PhD in Physics, both from the University of Strathclyde, and followed this up with a year’s post-doctoral research as Strathclyde’s Doctoral Prize winner in 2024. Early 2025 sees Grant simultaneously taking the next step in his professional career, as a researcher in epidemiological systems at Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland, just as he begins what he describes as an “incredibly exciting” chapter in his musical life with the Cooperation Band.
