The position of Eb Bass is supported by Randefalk Music & GJK Music

Dean began learning cornet at the age of seven with Clydebank Salvation Army. A few years later, he moved on to horn before finally switching to Eb Bass at 15, shortly after joining the senior band at Clydebank Salvation Army.
He joined his first contesting band in 2012 at the age of 20, making his debut with Johnstone Band at the Fife Charities Competition. During his time at Johnstone, he made his first appearance at the National Brass Band Championships following the band’s second-place finish in the First Section of the 2009 Scottish Championships.
Dean then joined Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass, making his debut with them at the 2013 Scottish Open. After two years at KKB, he signed for The Kirkintilloch Band, making his first appearance with the band at the 2015 British Open. He remained with The Kirkintilloch Band for the next eight years, becoming Principal Eb Bass, joining the committee, and eventually taking on the role of Band Manager. His favourite memory from his time there was winning the First Section title in 2019, made even more special by sharing the moment with his dad, Tommy Logan, who was in the bass section playing BBb Bass.
In 2023, Dean took a short hiatus from banding to pursue other musical opportunities on his second instrument, bass guitar. However, he did not stay away for long, joining the cooperation band at the start of 2024 and following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who had played BBb Bass for the band during the CWS Glasgow days. Dean made his debut with the band at the 2024 Scottish Championships, where he collected his first Scottish Championship winner’s medal. Since joining, he has ticked off many items on his banding bucket list, including performing at the Royal Albert Hall, competing at the European Brass Band Championships, and winning the Brass in Concert Championships in 2025, along with creating many other fantastic musical memories with the band.
At the beginning of 2026, Dean was promoted to Principal Eb Bass and, in his first contest appearance in the role, won the Best Bass prize as well as the Best Bass Section prize at the 2026 Scottish Championships.
Away from banding, Dean enjoys playing bass guitar, golfing, and working on and driving his collection of cars and motorbikes. Professionally, he is a technician for German automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, specialising in their range of commercial vehicles.
