Derek has been passionate about drumming for as long as he can remember, and his talent has taken him to remarkable stages and performances across the country. He currently plays with several bands and frequently performs in orchestra pits for theatrical productions nationwide. A career highlight for Derek was performing in the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games—a truly unforgettable experience.

Derek’s musical journey began with Livingston Brass Band, and in 1992 he made the pivotal decision to join “the Co” for their tour of Australia and New Zealand. This marked the start of a remarkable career in brass banding.

Over the years, Derek has had the privilege of performing in some of the world’s most iconic venues, including Symphony Hall in Birmingham, the Sydney Opera House, the Howden Park Centre in Livingston and the Royal Albert Hall, where he celebrated a victory at the National Brass Band Championships in 1996.

When he’s not performing with the cooperation band, Derek dedicates his time to teaching, playing in shows, and performing with his various other ensembles. His love for music continues to drive his career and inspire others around him.
