The Cooperation Band has announced that award-winning flugel player Stephanie Kennedy is stepping down from her playing position with the band after six successful years, as she looks to dedicate more time to her growing work in conducting and music education.
An Oldroyd Artist, Stephanie has been a prominent member of The Cooperation Band throughout a period that has included numerous memorable performances and successes on both the concert and contest stage.
During her six years in the flugel seat, Stephanie has earned numerous individual soloist awards and established herself as one of the band’s most distinctive musical voices.
A particular highlight came at Brass in Concert 2025, where The Cooperation Band was crowned Brass in Concert Champion. Stephanie’s contribution to the winning performance was also recognised individually when she received the Best Flugel award.
Her musicianship, commitment and distinctive sound have made a significant contribution to the band over the past six years, while her contribution away from the stage has made her an equally valued member of the organisation.
Alan Douglas, Band Manager of The Cooperation Band, said:
“Stephanie has made an enormous contribution to The Cooperation Band over the past six years. She is an exceptional musician and has given us so many memorable performances, both as a soloist and as part of the band.
“While we are naturally very sorry to see her leave the flugel seat, we are also incredibly proud to see Stephanie developing the next stage of her musical career. Her passion for conducting, education and developing young musicians is clear, and we know she has an exciting future ahead of her.
“Importantly, Stephanie remains very much part of the Cooperation family through her work with our Youth Band, and we look forward to supporting her as she continues to develop as a conductor and educator.”
While Stephanie is stepping away from the senior band, she will remain an important part of the wider Cooperation organisation as Conductor of The Cooperation Youth Band.
In this role, she will continue to work alongside members of The Cooperation Band to inspire, encourage and develop the next generation of young brass and percussion musicians.
The Cooperation Band would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Stephanie for her outstanding commitment and contribution throughout her six years in the flugel seat and wishes her every success as she focuses on the next chapter of her musical career.
