the cooperation band announces departure of Principal Cornet Jim Hayes

Jim Hayes has concluded his role as Principal Cornet of the cooperation band, bringing to a close an outstanding chapter that spans more than two decades of exceptional musicianship and dedication.

Jim joined the cooperation band in 2002, quickly establishing himself as a pivotal figure within the band. Over the past twenty years, his commitment, professionalism, and musical leadership have played a significant role in shaping the band’s sound and success both on the contest stage and in concert performance.

Widely regarded as one of the finest cornet players of his generation, Jim’s playing career has been marked by numerous individual accolades. Most notably, he has been awarded Best Cornet at the Scottish Championships on seven occasions, a remarkable achievement that reflects his consistency, technical mastery, and musical authority at the highest level of competition. In addition, he was named Best Soloist at the All England Masters in 2010, further underlining his reputation as a performer of exceptional calibre.

“For many of us, it’s hard to imagine the band without Jim,” said Ewan Millar. “He has been a familiar face, a steady influence, and a good friend for over two decades. Jim has given so much of himself to the band, often quietly and without fuss, and that commitment has meant a great deal to us all. While we will miss him greatly, we’re grateful for everything he’s shared with us and wish him nothing but happiness and success in whatever comes next.”

The band would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Jim for his outstanding contribution, loyalty, and service over the past two decades. His legacy as Principal Cornet will remain an integral part of the band’s history. While this marks the end of his tenure in this role, the cooperation band wishes Jim every success in his future musical endeavours.
