The Cooperation Band is pleased to announce the appointment of Grant Henderson as its new Principal Baritone.
Originally from The Wirral, and from a family with strong Scottish roots, Grant began playing the baritone aged seven before moving to euphonium at the age of eleven. He progressed through the Wirral Schools Music Service, performing with the senior Wirral Schools Brass and Concert Bands, as well as Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass Band, with whom he appeared in a theatrical run of Brassed Off in 2015.
In 2016 he moved to Glasgow to study at the University of Strathclyde, joining the Strathclyde University Concert Band and later serving as its President between 2020 and 2022. He has also enjoyed performing with both the Dunbartonshire Concert Band and Dunbartonshire Wind Ensemble.
Alongside his musical activities, Grant holds a BSc (First Class Honours) and a PhD in Physics from the University of Strathclyde, where he was also awarded the Doctoral Prize in 2024 for his postdoctoral research. He now begins his professional career as a researcher in epidemiological systems at Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland, coinciding with his appointment to the Cooperation Band.
Speaking about the opportunity, Grant commented:
“I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Cooperation Band. It is an incredibly exciting new chapter in my musical life and I look forward to contributing to the band’s future success.”
